Young kids affected by OSAS usually are thin and skinny and tend to develop and grow late. This lack of growth has two main reasons: the effort required to the body for the breathing act is so high that calories are burned with a high unit/time rate, also when resting. It can also happen that the amount of calories put into the system is lower, because the nose and the throat are so blocked by catarrh and submucosal oedema, that eating is not a pleasure anymore (you can't taste anything) and swallowing food is physically unpleasant.
